Sometimes I get to go to cool places, and when I do, I write a little about them. I hope you will want to go see them too.
Ireland was my first International trip since I was 18 and I couldn’t have picked a better country!
We had purchased a Groupon Getaway for a 6 night, 7 day trip staying in castles around the southern portion of Ireland. I highly recommend using Groupon Getaways if you are looking for budget minded travel where most things are taken care of for you.
We drove to Chicago for our flight out and took an overnight flight on Aer Lingus. We started our trip with a double shot of Irish Whiskey, becasue why not and off we went. Because we took our trip on February the flight was not very full and we were lucky enough to get our own rows!
We landed in Dublin early in the morning. Our rental car (part of our groupon) was ready for us at the rental counter. One thing to make SURE you do. Make sure your own personal car insurance or credit card covers rental cars. Don’t ever buy the insurance through the rental car center if you can avoid it, but don’t leave yourself open in case of an accident either. Also, make sure you thoroughly inspect your car and take pictures every single time you travel. We had a cute little (little!) car which was a stick shift (automatics can be hard to come by, if you don’t drive a stick make sure you book an automatic far in advance). Driving a stick, driving on the opposite side of the road on the american “passenger” side was a trip! Luckily my travel partner took to it right away and I did the navigating. We made a solid team.
Traffic was no worse than some of the major cities I’ve driven in the US and soon we were on our way to Dalky for our first castle say: Kilnarny Castle.
